When: Visits are arranged approximately every 6 weeks
Venue: Various Locations

The aim of this group is to increase interest in and awareness of art and artists, primarily through visits to galleries and local exhibitions. Visits are arranged approximately every six weeks. Where possible we arrange for a guided tour of an exhibition.

In the recent past we have been to Compton Verney, The Herbert Gallery in Coventry, The Barber Institute at Birmingham University, The RBSA Gallery, The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and both Leamington and Worcester museums and art galleries.

We research major exhibitions and events that are to be held in the West Midlands and try and produce a balanced programme with a broad appeal. The emphasis is on enjoyment of art and we do little by way of analysis or evaluation of paintings as such.

Visits stimulate positive emotions, promote feelings of engagement and as a result can improve the quality of life. There is something essentially civilising about looking at art in galleries, so if you haven’t been recently our next visit should allow you to experience the enjoyment for yourself.

All our visits end with lunch and this adds a social dimension.

During the winter months the group occasionally meet in members houses to discuss topics of mutual interest. We have also watched live screenings in cinemas on major exhibitions. The group is open to all and new members are especially welcome.
